You should read I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. The book ends wildly differently from the movie.
The alternate ending was significantly better.
And then check out the old movie “Omega Man” with Charlton Heston, which is actually based on the book “I am Legend”.
[Jude P.]:
Charlton Heston was in the REMAKE of the film.
The FIRST film-version starred Vincent Price:

The ending to I Am Legend is poetic though…
Haven’t seen it in a while, but I remember what someone said about it:
The ending in the final cut ruins the title of the film. TVTropes sums it up well: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Film/IAMLEGEND
The title refers to Will Smith being the monster of the infected’s legends, but the way it was cut (outside of special features), the infected are mindless monsters.
Obligatory warning: You can get lost for days in TVTropes, enter at your own peril, &c.
And the worst? Shows that end on huge cliffhangers but don’t get picked up for the next season – like The Finder.
Dexter ending was horrific too. I am Legend had two endings on the DVD die in a blaze of glory or the take her and we’ll leave for the colony.
There’s actually an alternate theatrical ending to I Am Legend, and it is so so good. http://www.movieweb.com/movie/i-am-legend/alternate-ending
90% of the book I am a legend is different, the message of the story is completely different and the title have a completely different explanation, so yeah the movie was a shame and the endings were completely ridiculous. 🙂
I agree with the rest, except maybe dollhouse, it’s just a show cancelled with an ending done in the last minute, I’ve seen worst and at least it have a conclusion.
V….
and 24 years later, V !!!!
*grrrr*
(Whispers) Battlestar Gallactica.
Oh my god, yes, battlestar galactica, WTF Ronald D Moore… This is probably the worst ending I’ve ever seen. That and the wickerman…
Lost
Whoa, whoa, whoa, WHOA, what was bad about the “Return of the Jedi” ending? That’s one of the classics of cinema!
didn’t it end with little cuddle bears overwhelming an advanced army with sticks?
That’s not the ending, that’s about half of the third act. And it’s “cannibal guerrilla hunter-gatherer teddy bears with thousands of years of forest-hunting experience, living on a world full of giant monsters that would happily eat them, with sufficient engineering knowledge to build gliders and giant log and rock traps, acting in concert with crack Rebel commandos to fight an unready foe”, and they were STILL taking heavy losses until Chewie commandeered an AT-ST and took the Imperials by surprise.
The only part I could focus on in that description was the “teddy bears”
All Jedi had was a bunch of muppets.
I’m not religious but I always liked the fan theory that the aliens in Signs were really demons. Flashing lights, mysterious creatures, units of three or four–evidence a modern society would take as aliens, but a medieval society would conclude were demons.
The aliens are also not very intelligent (e.g. pantry door) and it makes no sense that they would choose to come to a planet made 70% of horribly burning water, entirely naked. Unless of course it wasn’t just any water, but little vials of holy water blessed by the little what’s-her-face.
Oooooor the writers were just god-awful stupid. Hey, it’s happened before! *sigh*
I can’t imaging how you feel about TV series that die due to network asshats.
Battlestar Galactica. *mummel*
Avatar: The Last Airbender. The live-action movie.
Hey, we don’t talk about the dark times
I’m pretty sure that ENTIRE movie was terrible…not just the ending
There is no movie in Ba Sing Se.
Why didn’t you like the ending to Signs? To cliche?
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
*shudder*
But but but…I liked the ending of Her…
I for one rather liked the ending of Dollhouse! **spoilers** It scratched the itch for me of “why the heck do important characters never get hit by bullets when people are clearly shooting at them in great numbers?” A random stray bullet to the head, so suddenly and finally, was the sort of completely unexpected twist that made the ending feel real and honest to me.
Yes, that exactly.
Yes… So fricking much! But not as bad as when someone (mostly my mom) sings the wrong lyrcs to a song/melody I know. Narf!
Whenever someone mentions America’s Got Talent, I start getting upset about Prince Poppycock not winning.
I actually loved Dollhouse’s Epitaphs, but that’s probably because I’m a post-apocalyptic junkie. Wish there were more of them. That song they used in them, Remains, was sooo hauntingly good… Omfg.
I agree. I like the ending to Dollhouse. I think it was well done.
Am I the first to mention the atrocious X-Files ending (less of a surprise than others, sure, since that show went to sludge after season five)?
I’d agree in part, except I don’t think the show really went to pot until those last couple seasons.
Serenity.
I’m with you, pal… I’m with you…
I’m not sure what enrages me more, though. Bad endings to series and movies I loved throughout, or series that got cancelled AT THE WORST MOMENT POSSIBLE (oh, Firefly… we shall forever mourn you…)
Why did “Her” bother you? Maybe I got weighed down too much with the nitty gritty philosophy stuff because I studied it non-stop, but I thought the ending was pretty straightforward and almost inevitable.
OMG yes. So true to life.
I’m kind of glad I never got into watching HIMYM on more than an extremely casua basis, because it’s really kind of fun watching fans have aneurysms about the ending from the outside… =D
I’m still pissed off at “Mama”…
I HAD SUCH HIGH HOPES, DAMMIT!
I still get mad that they cancelled Terra Nova. I’m also still mad that FUCKING ALMOST HUMAN GOT CANCELLED WTF FOX YOU SUCK I WILL FIND YOUR LEADER AND STICK HIS HEAD ON A SPIKE!
It’s been two years since Mass Effect 3. I’m still pissed about it.
Battlestar galactica still makes me randomly pissy!
Psst: The movie ‘Sunshine’. >:|
I rage about this years later.
My fury at the end of “How I Met” does occasionally pop up out of nowhere to threaten to strangle me with bitter, betrayed rage. (Happens to me a lot with books, too — like the end of “Christine.” ARGH.)
AI…
Urghh, AI…
JAG had one of the worst endings ever. It was our family show and we all gathered around to watch it every week from series beginning to series end. For 10 years. And they ended it on a coin toss…
