Yes, you REALLY are invited!
Here are the deets as they stand so far: we are already technically married (you aren’t taking wacky pills), but it only just became legally recognized in our home State. Since our original wedding was abrupt, on a shoestring budget (because most of the money went towards travelling to somewhere we could get married at the time), and we only had four people in attendance, it seems worth an official, much more fun and meaningful do-over now that we can!
So! We are roughly planning on sometime in Fall/Winter of 2016. We’re definitely planning on broadcasting it to the ‘net so literally anyone who wants to be a part of it can be, but we’d also like to have loads of you friendly folk actually be there. We’re still working out the details on that last part, so stay tuned or feel free to offer some ideas for wedding newbies. The ideal event will be only semi-formal and function as mostly the fun reception part of a wedding, with a nice vow renewal at the beginning — one location, no shuttling around — we promise! We just want it to be a celebration of our love and the love that’s been given to us. <3
Anyway, our current budget is zippo and we’re very easy-going people, so expect (or suggest) some weird and fun ideas. There might be pizza, maybe a ghost hunt, who the hell knows? I just know I can’t wait!

Not only will you get a huge assortment of different fun food, you will automatically have something for everybody, be it meatlovers, religious people or allergics. Which could come in handy when you are inviting literally everybody =D

Woohoo! Congratulations! 😀 Your comics (and tweets) have been a great source of reassurance and laughs for me for a long time now. I’m an ocean away, though, so much as I wish I could see you great peeps get (renewal) married in person, I’m afraid it won’t be happening.
I think pizza is totally in — you could make a bunch of dough (cheap! kitchen-klutz-proof! just dump and mix and leave alone! just like kids, except doesn’t make a mess, require a lot of responsibility, and you can eat it! [see: Jim Lahey’s no-knead pizza dough]) and get a variety of toppings (or ask everyone to bring what they like — and some extra, for other people), and let everyone build mini pizzas for themselves, then grill them (I’ve no idea about costs of such a thing???). And you can totally put weeds on top of ’em! (Like a nettle sauce, or just good ol’ pansies, or just some lettuces after baking/grilling.)

Congratulations! You know, again! Websites that I’ve been finding helpful are offbeatbride.com and apracticalwedding.com – they definitely cater to weddings that don’t fall into the norm of the wedding industrial complex (WIC). No budget and who knows how many people at this point? What about a potluck in a park?
Ahh please have it in the Pacific Northwest so I can go! And there are tons of friendly webcomic artists in Portand who I’m sure would love to attend.
A friend of mine had a very cheap DIY wedding and here are some of the things she did:
~potluck style: everyone brings a dish and a chair
~held it at a friend’s farm — ceremony was in a field, reception was under a huge tent
~made her own archway
~basically only had to spend money on string lights as decorations, renting a dance floor because it was outdoors and there were elderly people, and a generator for the string lights, sound system, and a couple of crock pot / slow cooker dealies. Maybe she had to rent the tent too? I didn’t ask/don’t remember
~a bunch of guests brought tablecloths too
~her mom and I and some other people got flowers from our yards (/my mom’s yard with her permission) and brought a couple vases for them
~maybe we brought our own utensils? But I don’t think so..
~her mom made her dress though that may not be relevant for you
~gorgeous hand-made invitations with paper punches

My husband and I had a tiny wedding abroad (just us, our parents, and our siblings) then the big party a year later so we could celebrate with everyone. My brother put together video footage from our wedding to a song, and we played it on a projector, and also had a slideshow with pictures of us from tiny to married, which was kinda cool 🙂 I also wore my wedding dress again (and the dress was secondhand from eBay – it was great, the previous owner had basically done almost exactly the same customisations as I’d have wanted/needed (e.g. shorten it and remove the train) had I bought it new! One exception was sewing in some padding, which took less than 5 mins to remove… And it meant that I spent about 1/20th what it would have cost new), though I then changed into another dress I could actually dance and breathe in simultaneously after 😉
My husband was worrying it was going to end up too formal and not really “us” so ended up getting a bungee run to add some fun (as in, the price to rent or buy was similar, so for a while we owned a bungee run). It was a huge hit – people really enjoyed it, from a toddler second cousin who bounced on it gently, to the older kids and grown ups having more serious competitions! We also had a wine glass charm bead station (because introverted me still reckons that being able to find a quiet moment of solitude at a party without it being antisocial is *useful*) and people also had fun with that, though I think it had less universal appeal than the bungee run.
We also went to France to do a booze run (although this might make more sense if you live in the south of England). One thing we did learn: the provisional assumption of 4 bottles of wine per person (white, red, rose and sparkling) *does* make for a lot of leftovers. In fact, I think we still have quite a lot of the rose 4 years on… (We didn’t know what people would want to drink… Perhaps three red, three white, three sparkling, one rose per table would have worked out better? However, we were also expecting more people to stay over in the area than actually did which also cut down on the drinking.)
Table decorations: one of my MIL’s friends is a florist with an amazing garden, and she let us raid it for flowers. We also decorated with Quality Streets (chocolates and toffees, wrapped in jewel-bright shiny cellophane) and sherbet lollies and sweets 🙂
Need ideas for the wedding reception? Forget wedding cake. Go with cupcakes. Instead of cutting the cake, see who can juggle cupcakes the longest.

This is so wonderful! Congratulations. I planned my wedding on a relatively small budget in NYC. I’m pretty crafty and made a bunch of stuff for myself, so if you guys need pointers or want some left over wedding stuff (homemade fascinator, test tubes and test tube racks for nerdy sciency alcohol shots) lemme know!

You’re basically renewing your vows, which is what it’s called usually when you decide to hold a new ceremony. (thank you Eureka and your weird time travel story complications for giving me that tidbit. XD)

Don’t worry, we’re aware of the term ‘renewing your vows’ and weren’t asking for a specific definition outside of our own: Marriage. We didn’t get to have a standard marriage that everyone else gets because of the laws in place at the time, so we’re calling this a ‘Marriage/Wedding’ since we’re able to finally acknowledge it where we live and invite people who we want to attend. To call it a “Renewal of Our Vows” would suggest that our original ceremony was what we wanted it to be (without laws hindering it), or provided us with the union that we had wanted up to this point (without laws hindering it) or was even legal in the State where we resided, built our lives and have lived for the last decade. It didn’t, it wasn’t and we want what most other people want: a marriage we can plan and celebrate to its full capacity under our definition (without laws hindering it). Thanks for the congrats, we hope to have a lot of fun at our Wedding.
When we got married it was on a shoestring budget too. So it was a potluck, and my mother-in-law made pies instead of having a cake. Plus we used the front lawn of a family friend whose place was big enough. My dad’s girlfriend was the photographer. We built a trellis to stand under and painted flowerpots as party-favors. Father-in-law was friends with a DJ, and his brother had a video camera. And my mom and brother-in-law ran security incase any exes showed up (but that’s another story).
We only had two regrets. The minor one was that we’d have liked to have had a Halloween Wedding in October with fake blood and costumes; but since most family members would have been a little put-off…ehn, we can always get remarried for our tenth anniversary.
The second bigger one was that we’d spent two months solid working on every last minute detail that by the time the reception came we were EXHAUSTED.
So yeah, have fun, but stay well rested.

Over here it’s not unusual to have guest bring a little bit of food with them. Everyone makes something different and brings it along and everything is put up on a table and then you take the things you want to taste. It’s a cheaper way to make sure there is food and you get to try a lot of different things, specially if the guest have different cultural background.
