My kitten, Henry, has just helped himself to the Christmas cake and is singing a victory song now. (This isn’t the first time he’s done it and the vet says that it’s fine!)
I would hang my tree upside down from the ceiling, out of reach. And plastic ornaments. (granted it was one of those really small fake things, not sure how managable that is with bigger trees)
We adopted Bastian in October 2011, and when we put our tree up, he immediately tried to get into a fight with it… and lost, because the tree poked him viciously in the eye.
He almost ended up Jiji-style (he actually had bleeding inside the eye, so he had one bright-blue eye and one that was muddy hazel), but our vet was able to save the eye, and he seems to have normal vision now.
You just KNOW that if you guys decided to put up a tree, Jiji would be ninja-climbing it in SECONDS, so that he could knock the angel off its perch and take its place 😉
My 1 year old cat, Cat (that’s what happens when I let my bff choose my pets’ names), LOVES to try and eat plastic. Sometimes he will try to swallow the smaller stuff when I’m not looking only to later throw it back up.
Just tell people you named your cat after a singer/songwriter. It’s worked for my pets. I’ve had a cockatiel named after an arctic explorer, a puppy named after a famous rapper, and a kitten named after a famous actor/singer.
That’s a pretty good idea xD now I need to find someone famous named Caticus Von Timey Mimey. or try explaining why my dogs full name is Sir Taconius Beefing-Hymer the Third.
Loki Tiberius Cat and Harvey Charlene Dent Cat enviously bow down before the awesomeitude of your pets’ names. But don’t tell anyone they said that or they’ll probably try to murder me (again).
I was thinking about commenting that! I’ve known 2 gray cats in my life, and they were the only 2 cats I ever knew that liked to eat plastic. It’s very strange…
about cats and plastic, I’ve heard that there’s a coating on plastic bags that cats find delicious. It’s something to make it easier to separate them or something.
I have found that shouting ‘No!’ doesn’t work with our cats. You have to speak their language. Try hissing (TSSS! TSSS!) at them instead. Or sometimes we blow them with that canned air stuff you use to blow dust off your electronics and keyboards. They’ll learn the rules faster (the problem is getting them to CARE about the rules).
Some scientists found out that cats do understand our gestures and the sound of our voice. They do know when we want them to stop doing something. They actually decide to not care.
My roommate used to have a cat that a friend sent her from japan. He had been living behind a sushi bar so he’d only respond to “iie” (NO). And then he’d look at you like an offended samurai: “I cannot…No, YOU WILL NOT LIVE WITH MY SHAME!!”
supposedly, cats have a thing about the taste of plastic. My Puffy likes to like plastic as well. (I adopted her when she was about 8, she’s 10, 11-ish now[?]) She also likes my dirty laundry, curls up with it like it was catnip. And she LOVES people’s feet. And she’s at least part Maine Coon, so very fluffy and hair, hair everywhere.
I refuse to believe cats shoving stuff off things isn’t on purpose. If I don’t wake up fast enough every morning, without fail, my cat Kiki will start pushing the loudest objects off my dresser until I’m up and trying to catch falling objects.
She watches me while she does it too, the little, adorable jerk.
For exactly these reasons, we have one of those cheap, fill-it-yourself sprayer bottles, filled with plain water, in nearly every room of the house. On the “thin, concentrated stream” setting, they can easily reach across a good-sized room, with a precise, instant zap of water. This is what we do, if the cats look like they are about to jump, climb, or eat something they shouldn’t. They have learned that if a human is in the room (and not reading) that which is forbidden exacts instantaneous DOOM. (Both my cats hate being squirted). :3
Of course, they know perfectly well they can get away with it if they just go into another room. But at least they don’t knock my glass over right in FRONT of me anymore! LOL
My cats also chew on plastic. Though derpcat (Soxz) tries to eat it sometimes and ends up puking it up. I blame him being three generations inbred. Last year we had the tree up and Tau tried to climb it several times, but has yet to try and do it this year, so we’ll see how that goes.
And here I am. The alien freak that’s allergic to cats and doesn’t understand these inside cat jokes everyone else gets D:
THIS IS WHY I CAN’T REDDIT EITHER
I do think they do it on purrpose, cause when my cat Forseti is hungry, he jumps up my desk, looks me in th eye and begins to chew on literally everything thats in his reach: pencils, hairbands…and he does this sniffing thing really loud.
My cat, Ebony, does anything and every annoying thing to get me up in the morning. It is the whiskers up my nose that usually works the best. She is just like a little child, I forgive her for what she does, because I love her!

We don’t even have a tree this year because of the kitten…
Put it in the corner and tie it to a wall. That’ll stop it from falling over. Ornaments, however, will have to be plastic and no tinsel.
I don’t think the kitten would like being tied to a wall.
you sir, are a genius
Haha.

Is Peter crying because he got his claws stuck in the curtain? Loki, my cat does all of these, except he headbutts glasses

every gray cat I’ve ever had loves to lick plastic bags. Worse than nails on the chalkboard…
I was thinking about commenting that! I’ve known 2 gray cats in my life, and they were the only 2 cats I ever knew that liked to eat plastic. It’s very strange…
I have a rescue cat who’s either a Birman or Snoeshoe mix and he totally chews on plastic! It’s so worrisome!
It’s like this with three dogs….
I don’t know what it is with cats and Plastic, but mine do the same thing. Must be the noise it makes. :/
Our tree is anchored to the walls.
/story.
(Well, kind of, but we also have these motion-activated “Ssscats” that shoot compressed air at any movement under the tree. That helps.)
One of our cats likes chewing on packing tape. Ideeek.
That image of Peter? EXACTLY how my orange cat “Gohan” does that… looking upside down over his back at us. haha!

Peter, Peter, Peter…

Chewing and eating plastic are two different things! If he’s chewing it, let him! It cleans their teeth 😉
I just inherited two cats. They have joined my notoriously evil dog to form a Mischief Voltron. This comic is my life now.

I feel like Jiji might be a little more intentional than any of the other ones.

think about those relatives that are constantly doing things that they aren’t supposed to do “because it’s FUN!”
aaaaah i just read everything instead of writing a report. what is this beautiful, evil thing that has consumed my evening hours!
I do think they do it on purrpose, cause when my cat Forseti is hungry, he jumps up my desk, looks me in th eye and begins to chew on literally everything thats in his reach: pencils, hairbands…and he does this sniffing thing really loud.
I ask the same thing about my cats… and I’m reasonably sure that one of them is playing stupid
My cats also eat plastic. They haven’t figured out yet that it makes them throw up.
