I do not follow you per se, but I have you on a list of comics I check every day. I have also already told everyone who is relevant in my life about you and your comic. I hope that is worth something. *egostroke, egostroke, egostroke*
I realise you’re making a joke about social media, but you DID make a comic about gaining and losing followers. If you want more followers, make more comics.
I think you missed the point of the joke. It was mostly about the relative and inconsequential parts of life having disproportionate emotions tied to them for most people on social media. Believe me, “make more comics” is always part of our job and ambitions, but it’s not always possible. So, I was not literally demanding more followers — but I literally did make a comic.
I just have you on a mental life of comics-to-check-almost-daily, and then your site is also right in the middle of all the bookmarks I have to scroll by to reach the bottom. My disorganization factors into your total views, yay
I just wanted to say an extra special thank you to everyone for sending in all of the lovely comments! You guys are the absolute best!
And not to worry, the follower angst isn’t for the comics (whose regular reader counts have been growing steadily, Yay!), but for the fickle beasts that are my Twitter and Tumblr. Like in the comic, I usually wind up with gains, but it’s interesting to see how topics like sexuality, gender, and olives scare people off. I’ve heard the same sentiment from pretty much everyone, so I thought it’d be a fun shared experience comic. <3 We've all been there...
One time I tweeted about how detrimental, brutal and amoral police officers are (a well-documented fact) and I lost half my followers. Another time I tweeted why I don’t “support the troops” (a shameless ploy to silence anti-war sentiment) and lost another half. Between the two, I lost nearly 2,000 followers for having controversial opinions. I now refer to this as “thinning the herd.”
I might have unfollowed after that first one, not because I think all police officers are saints or anything, but because it’s such a huge generalization to make about a large group. There are really shitty police officers, yes, but there are also really fantastic ones.
I’ve never found an exception. The police are institutionally and existentially traitors to the working class, which is their own class. Beware of the Fascist Pigs! They cannot be trusted.
You must live in a horrible area. My father is a cop (though we live in Canada, so maybe it’s just localized to where you live?) come to canada you’ll like our cops 🙂
I’d like to add that Reddit is pretty fickle, too. I’m finding that out every time I post a comic there. I have a decent number of people who read it (but very few Facebook and Twitter followers) but Reddit stabs me repeatedly. I guess they don’t like cats…go figure! (Love the hell out of your comics, btw…ironically Reddit steered me this way…)
Well, I can understand how you can feel emotionally attached to someone you really dont know. It happens to me all the time thanks to the internet haha. For example, you two guys. So you are not losing me anytime soon 🙂
I dunno ’bout twitter, but when people delete their account on Tumblr, it erases them from your list, and might appear as if you have been unfollowed. So every time I lose a follower I just think to myself, “They just deleted their account (or got banned) They don’t hate me!” 😉
Sooo…. did you get a huge influx of Twitter followers as a result of this comic causing your loyal readers to occur that it might be fun to do so? (hey, worked for me) LOL
You know what’s worse? Having the chance to say “I didn’t even say anything” in a relationship. It can go south without any intervention from you. And then, I feel just like you..
Oh my gosh, this is my life! I own a store, and every time someone “unsubscribes” from my email list, or un-follows us on facebook, I have just about the same melt-down….

Actually, I don’t follow you, just have you into a list. Please don’t take it bad, it’s just for the sake of timeline organization 😀
I got you on an RSS feed.
…I really hope you had a SSD in there 😀

I would follow You anywhere (and everywhere). Not in a creepy, stalker-y way; just on social network-y things.
uhmmm…..
I would hate to imagine what the life was like before social media….
oh wait…I was there!
it was peaceful bliss and no online angst….
I’d follow you guys in a creepy, stalker-y way. …It’s from a place of love, I swear!
I will forever have both Chaos Life and Find Chaos in my RSS feed. And I’ll read every last one of them. Because you gals rock. 🙂

But I really don’t intend to get into this here.
That’s so not even true that it makes my brain itch.

Wait! You talk about OLIVES?! I’ma hafta rethink whether or not I’ll keep reading your stuff now! …j/k, keep up the greatness A & K!!!
I defollow and then follow you again, just to screw with your numbers.
I am literally your Joker.

Ill NEVER unfollow you my girlfriend and I love you !!!
I take it personal too when I lose followers. Why does it matter? But it does.

reminds me of this comic by LoadingArtist: http://www.loadingartist.com/2011/09/05/fans-fans-fans/
that was *exactly* like those rare moments on doctor who when they say “doctor who”
I never follow people. I bookmark them.
But then again, back when I was still blogging, I’ll have meltdown if I lose even one follower -_-“
I’m following you right now. Hahaha. No no. Tracking.
