The most wonderful time of the year…
Hahaha, I am definitely in the latter category…
I feel your pain, A.
Ditto. Also, sunburns under your hair are a terrible, terrible thing…
I’ve never had that, but I imagine it’s gotta be hell on earth.
I have witnessed a sunburnt *tongue* before :X
I too feel your pain A. Its been 2 weeks since I got back from a cruise looking like A and by the grace of Banana Boat aloe vera lotion, I now look like K
I don’t tan, I orangeish-red, but only after I look like A. And only on the front. The back of my arms and legs stay fish – belly white.
I know the feeling. I have two skin tones myself. “You should get some sun” pale, and “That looks painful” red.
8 hours in the sun…I mean, hello? Moderation! – at least for those ppl in the bottom panel (like me). Take 30 minutes max, included sun protection lotion.
Break in the shadow, normal behavior. If you feel “confident”, add another 30 minutes.
Rince and repeat for a couple of days, watch your skin closely. You should get a tan, worst case minor burns (depends on where you live > strength of the sun > skin)
I guess I’m in between. If I forget to or can’t apply lotion, I’ll get tanned, but also slightly burned after 8 hours. A little SPF 8 ahead of time though, and I’m golden (tanned).
You look very Irish in this, as a child I wanted to send a skit off to Monty Python. It was just people on a beach very calm scene. Then a man runs by on fire, flailing and running towards the ocean. Cut to two people in bathing suits and one says, ‘Damn Irish, trying to sun bathe again.’ Pan to the desk, ‘And now for something completely different.’ Que music.
I would have loved to have seen this! Got a great chuckle out of my just imagining the scene.
Love it! Maybe you could draw it as a comic?
Secret vampires, assemble !
I don’t tan like many people like to. My “Tan” is me looking like a statue made of red clay and that’s WITHOUT a burn.
XD the same thing happens to me when I get into the sun Stiffler, though I usually get a good tan afterwards, so the pain is usually worth it X3
Tanning is the new cigarettes: Looking good (to some people) in exchange for a high cancer rate.
I feel your pain, A! I love the sun, but my skin does not.
Definitely one of the former, though the tone change has become gradually less and less the more of a shut-in I become.
Im irish german and native american, im white and freckly, when i get sun i burn red..then turn tan, with bright white skin where i didn’t tan.
Ugh, yes. Ten unprotected minutes of direct sunshine = blistered, peeling, zombie-walking ball of absolute AGONY. Best of all is when I get the beautiful burn right where my hair parts on the top of my head. Dandruff of the Gods +10, now with BONUS ‘I must scratch because ITCHY! ITCHY! – OW-OW-OW!! cannot scratch, CAN-NOT SCRATCH…’ action. (-_-)
If I go out in the sun without 100SPF, I look like the bottom panel. With the 100SPF, my skin stays it’s normal shade of pale and freckled
I get Hells Itch when I get a sun burn so I know the feeling. Hells itch is an allergic reaction to a sunburn that pretty much feels like the Cruciatus Curse from Harry Potter. There’s no cure and it can last for days.DAYS!
Use peppermint oil on the red and irritated parts! It works a lot quicker than the greasy aloe vera gel and keeps your skin cooler for a lot longer too! ^_^
I remember days spent in bathtubs trying to ease the pain of a sunburn. Sucks so bad when it’s shoulders and thighs though because then in most tubs you gotta pick which one hurts more.
I don’t get tan or pale, but I sure as hell will burn if I’m not careful.
I got a shoulder sunburn last summer when I went camping >~< It was terrible.
I am the former.
I feel it A. I come in two shades: Glue and Lobster. I walk near a window and burst into flames. My girlfriend, on the other hand, becomes gorgeously tan just looking outside.
Looks like the tourists I see on Miami Beach. Walking around all red, only they think they look good. 🙂
I’m with A on this one. Oh nice and warm….it’s burning my flesh!
My brothers get a tan in an instant. I’m pale and burn really easy so I gotta use the highest protection sun lotion. Besides that I also got a sun allergy, which causes painful and itchy rash/blisters. Whenever I’m going out on a sunny day, I need to take my allergy-meds, use the max protect sun lotion (and repeat every few hours), hide in the shade and hope I don’t get a rash.
But I’ve never really cared about tanning and I can’t stand lying on the beach for hours etc so looking on the bright side, atleast I’m not ruining my skin by spending hours in the sun/tanning salons.
Oww, empathy. I missed the last two stops of our South Pacific cruise (had to stay on the ship, hiding from the sun) because I got absolutely sizzled on Bora Bora. I’m intellectually aware that the sun does not particularly love me, but didn’t quite grock that, hey, tropics, and I went on our 4-wheel tour around the island without my hat. And the cars didn’t have, like, roofs. :/ I got sunstroke, nausea, whole nine yards, then looked like I had a case of terminal dandruff when my scalp started peeling through my hair. 🙁
Ah yes….I’m a redhead…I know the struggle….
the day moon, it burns.
Definitely with you, Stiffler. I take after the Irish side of my family and get burned just looking at a picture of the sun. Many of the major makeup brands do not make a shade light enough for me. My best friend, on the other hand, can work out in the sun for hours and just get a bit pink.
Oops, thought of something else. I just wanted to say I love the comparison comics!
Which one I end up as seems to depend on latitude. Michigan? Generally fine, a bit of tan. Costa Rica? OH GOD BLISTERS.
Oh! I know this is an old post, but seeing as its summer again. I recommend getting Asian brand sunscreen, Japanese or Korean they have spf 50 sun screens since they prize white skin, it works so well for those of us who burn easily. You can find plenty on Amazon.
